Cape Verde

Welcome to RMDS – This website is dedicated to information about the Cape Verde Islands.

The Portuguese for Cape Verde, Cabo Verde, means Green Cape. The Cape Verde archipelago is made up of 10 islands and 5 islets, 450km East of the West coast of Africa.

Investment in infrastructure is driving the country forward. One of the main areas of focus has been the development of new international airports. Praia Airport, on Santiago, opened to international flights in September 2005. The new international airport in Boa Vista is up and running as of November 2007. Sao Vicente should have its new airport open by mid to late 2008.

Santa Maria Pier, Sal, Cape Verde

Cape Verde is just five and a half hours flight from the UK. As of November 2006, direct flights operate between the UK and Cape Verde making it incredibly easy to get to. Cape Verde enjoys year-round sunshine and very little rainfall, making it the perfect destination for all seasons.

The Cape Verde islands are a peaceful democracy, with very little violence or crime, and the local Creole people are wonderfully friendly and welcoming.

The islands of Cape Verde have mile upon mile of unspoilt, unpolluted and undiscovered beaches, not to mention the perfect conditions for water sports. Cape Verde is a great place for surfers, fishing enthusiasts, as well as divers and snorkelers with many interesting fish and reefs. The islands of Sal, Boa Vista and Maio are especially renowned for their glorious beaches and for their full variety of water sports.

Some of the Cape Verde islands are a haven for hikers. You will find many trails to take you up into the mountains on islands like Santo Antao, Fogo and Brava.

Cape Verdeans are very musical and the islands are known for the ‘Morna'; a traditional song which has been made famous by the singer Cesaria Evora.

Cape Verde was a Portuguese colony for many years. The official language is still Portuguese, though most Cape Verdeans speak Creole or ‘Crioulo' which is derived from Portuguese and African languages.

Cape Verde was an important post during the transatlantic slave trade, as well as a place where many Europeans passed. This is why the population is of mixed descent, with a strong African influence.

Property investment and a growing tourism industry are helping the country move forward at quite a pace. It has been a wonderful experience to be part of the Cape Verde story over the last few years.

Our director Marco Pietropoli is half Italian, he was able to be one of the earliest British Agents to get involved in the jurisdiction. As some of you may know, many of the early pioneer property developers in Cape Verde were Italian.

The Cape Verde property industry has flourished into an established market with numerous agents and developers. Lucrative returns on property and land purchases have attracted many investors, as well as those seeking a slice of paradise for their holiday home.

Development was originally centered on Sal, but over the years many of the other islands have got the attention they deserve. As real estate agents, RMDS covers all the main islands with a huge range of property and land opportunities. We offer resale and off-plan developments for residential or commercial property purchases.

RMDS covers most of the big developments in Cape Verde, but we also have long-standing relationships with established developers that build smaller projects. We offer everything from small investment property units, to large villas on golf courses.
